2012 Heart Walk

As part of our commitment to caring for the community, Munroe partners with a variety of local charitable organizations, engages in outreach initiatives that promote healthy living and provides support to local non-profit organizations that support the hospital’s mission.

The American Heart Association is one of these organizations. Munroe's 2012 Heart Walk campaign is complete. Heart Walk is an annual non-competitive walk to raise awareness and funds to support the American Heart Association's mission to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke—the nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers. The walk took place at the Baseline Road Trailhead on October 6, 2012 and Munroe physicians, staff and volunteers join in with friends and family to participate.

Heart Walk - Why We Walk
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of all Americans? In fact, someone dies from CVD every 38 seconds! Heart disease also kills more women than all forms of cancer combined. And congenital cardiovascular defects are the most common cause of infant death from birth defects. So it's no surprise that so many of us are somehow touched by this disease.

Munroe's goal for this campaign was $40,000 and 375 walkers. On the Monday after the walk, Munroe reported a total of $47,453.99 raised and 264 walkers registered. Each Wednesday in the Munroe Dining Room from 11am to 2pm, various teams held a Heart Walk Day where employees could purchase stickers to wear jeans on Friday or hear about the latest fund-raising event teams are holding such as car washes, bake sales, raffles, 5Ks, photo contests, hot dog sales, quilt decoration.
