Marion County Hospital District

Marion County Hospital District was established by the Florida Legislature in 1965 (Chapter 65-1905). The Hospital District has authority to establish, construct, lease, operate and maintain any hospital or clinic as in its opinion shall be necessary for the preservation of public health, for the public good and for the use of the public. The Trustees set up rules and regulations and by-laws for the operation of the hospital, and the hospital staff, as well as set up rules for the control of professional and nonprofessional employees of the hospital.

Governed by a 7-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Marion County Board of County Commissioners for staggered four-year terms (two term limit). The Marion County Hospital District trustees are also active members of the Munroe Regional Health Systems board and committees, which meet on a regular basis to conduct Munroe Regional’s business.
