The Star-Banner's March 1 article titled “Munroe wins award for ER” was definitely misplaced. Why, oh why, wasn't this on the front page instead of “Couples take the leap for an extra special day”? You placed Munroe's article in the local section's front page.
You know full well that Munroe Regional Medical Center needs all the help and positive publicity it deserves in keeping it out of the hands of a private, for-profit hospital. Locals are fighting mad about this possibility, except for some county commissioners, that this may become a reality.
Once again, Munroe received accolades for the third straight year of placing in the top 5 percent of 263 hospitals surveyed by Healthcare, which analyzes health care trends. It studied 7 million emergency patient records between 2008 and 2010 on mortality rates and complications following treatments. Only 23 hospitals in Florida made the nation's top 5 percent. Star-Banner, please get your priorities straight. MRMC, the crown jewel of Marion County, always deserves front-page coverage.
