OCALA, Fla. (April 19, 2012) – Munroe Regional Medical Center President & CEO, Steve Purves, was recently named by the American Hospital Association as Florida’s 2012 Grassroots Champion.
The American Hospital Association (AHA), in partnership with the state hospital associations, awarded 52 individuals, one person from each State, with the American Hospital Association Grassroots Champion Award. As a 2012 Grassroots Champion these individuals are being recognized for exceptional leadership in generating grassroots and community activity in support of a hospital’s mission.
“We depend upon strong local voices to help tell the story of hospitals as cornerstones of the communities they serve,” said Rich Umbdenstock, AHA President & CEO. “This award is a small token of our appreciation for the hard work and dedication of these individuals to improving health and healthcare in America.”
The American Hospital Association Grassroots Champion Award was created to recognize those hospital leaders who most effectively educate elected officials on how major issues affect the hospital’s vital role in the community, who have done an exemplary job in broadening the base of community support for the hospital and who are tireless advocates for hospitals and their patients.
“I am truly honored to receive this recognition from the American Hospital Association,” said Steve Purves, President & CEO at Munroe Regional Medical Center. “I do not consider this an individual award, it is a team award, and I am proud to share it with all of our board members, employees, physicians, volunteers and community citizens that have helped over the past year in our advocacy efforts.”
