No choice at all
With the upcoming vote on the 1 mill increase on property taxes, the county commissioners and the MRMC Trustees and Board have really given the voter a no-voice vote. It's either approve the 1 mill on property taxes or MRMC will become a for-profit hospital, plain and simple. Believe it.
Now, intelligent homeowners don't want to increase their property taxes, and non-property owners will think this is a good thing because it will not increase any tax on them, through a ½-cent sales tax. It's abundantly clear, the hospital board and trustees, plus the county commissioners, want support for a for-profit hospital management company, as it will take a burden off of their shoulders. Now all those people who own no property will still pay through the nose for hospital care, as for-profit hospitals do not give anything away, no matter what they want you to believe. I spent too many years in the hospital industry to know this about hospitals.
It's only fair that the public be given the choice of a 1 mill tax on property or a ½-cent sales tax on the November ballot. To do otherwise is dishonest.
These people are not being honest with the public by telling them it has a choice. Yes, only a choice they want to give us, which is no choice at all. Do what they want, or else.
Also it's questionable as to the closed method of naming members to MRMC's Board of Trustees and Hospital Board. They don't make it easy for the general public to become members of the hospital board, even when members of the public have more hospital management experience than the board members. It's as though it's a closed society, and the ins have it. Something really smells here.
