Wettstein, Munroe Regional Named Communicators of the Year

OCALA, FL - JULY 23, 2012

Mandy Wettstein, APR, CPRC, and Munroe Regional Medical Center walked away with individual and institutional “Communicator of the Year” awards, respectively, from the Ocala Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association Friday evening.

The annual Wilton F. Martin Communicator of the Year awards were handed out at a special awards ceremony at Ocala’s Institute for Human and Machine Cognition. The awards honor individuals and institutions for outstanding communication with their respective audiences and for furthering the public relations profession.

Wettstein, one of three nominated for “individual” honors, is director of Strategic Alliances for That! Company in Leesburg, FL. She has led accreditation efforts for PR professionals in Lake and Marion counties, promoted her company’s Inc. 500 rating, and maintains strong media relationships in Orlando, Tallahassee, and her local area. She also helped her company recently secure the Orlando Magic marketing contract. Other nominees for the individual honor were Assistant Fire Chief Brian Stoothoff (Ocala Fire Rescue) and Superintendent Jim Yancey (Marion County Public Schools).

In the institution category, Munroe Regional Medical Center beat out three other nominees for the award – Friends of Munroe, Marion County Board of County Commissioners, and the Marion County Springs Festival.

Munroe’s efforts were spotlighted because of the hospital’s success with its weekly HealthMatters radio program, innovative publications for nursing, heart, community benefits, and e-newsletter. The hospital’s extensive use of social media was also a highlight of the nomination, including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Finally, an active speakers bureau and responsive public information office solidified the win.

Combined Insurance Services sponsored the event for FPRA-Ocala.

FPRA is dedicated to developing public relations practitioners, who, through ethical and standardized practices, enhance the public relations profession in Florida. FPRA is comprised of 15 professional and 10 student chapters throughout the state, providing professional development, networking and professional recognition opportunities.
