The Florida Hospital Association (FHA) recognized recipients of the 2012 Celebration of Achievement in Quality and Service Awards. This celebration, held during the FHA Annual Meeting, acknowledges leaders in the industry who have contributed to the mission of providing quality healthcare for the people of Florida.
Munroe Regional Medical Center’s President & CEO Steve Purves was recognized at the awards celebration with the 2012 Spirit of Advocacy award. The award honors an FHA member who has provided leadership within his or her organization, and served in key roles within the Association’s governance structure.
“We are very fortunate to have Steve’s talents and expertise at Munroe Regional and in our community,” said Ron Ewers, chairman of the Munroe Regional Health System board of directors. “The FHA’s Spirit of Advocacy award exemplifies and recognizes Steve’s commitment to making a difference in today’s changing healthcare environment not only in Marion County but across the state of Florida and nationwide.””
Mr. Purves is a current member of the FHA Board of Trustees and Advocacy committee. In April 2012, he was one of 50 healthcare leaders nationwide to be recognized as a “Grassroots Champion” by the American Hospital Association. During the 2012, Legislative Session, Mr. Purves’s activism played a key role in the success of averting a $2.1 billion proposed cut to hospital payments for the care of low-income families, children, the elderly and disabled.
