Looking for their cut

Regarding Save Our Constitution Now and Munroe Regional Medical Center:

Do you really want to know why medical costs are so high? Really? It’s a one-word answer: privatization. Privatization means one thing — again, a one-word answer: profit.

Long before the medical system was privatized, costs were reasonable. Then along came President Richard Nixon, who created the HMO. The HMO, under the guise of expediency, did one thing: added a middleman. And as we all know, the middleman wants his cut. And in the case of the medical industry, it is a whopping cut. The middlemen of our medical system take a cut, that some estimate, is as high as $800 billion out of $2.6 trillion in yearly health costs. That’s almost a third of the total costs. And that doesn’t include the pain and suffering it puts you through dealing with insurance companies.

And now outside, private interests are meddling in Ocala’s affairs. They want to privatize Munroe Regional. They want their cut! And the most despicable part of this is that they hide under a patriotic name, “Save Our Constitution Now.” Nothing could be less patriotic.

Munroe is a public hospital. It provides care to people who sometimes cannot afford it; and it does it by providing care that rivals some of the best hospitals in the nation. We need to keep our public hospitals public. We pay for this with our taxes, and we get the “profit,” an exceptional medical system.

Tell these meddling, greedy, selfish outsiders to go pedal their snake oil somewhere else. Vote YES on the Munroe bond issue.
