IN YOUR OPINION

An ominous admission
In your headline article, “HMA makes a pitch for Munroe,” there was one simplistic statement that tells the entire story of what the people of Marion County can expect from an HMA takeover of Munroe Regional Medical Center. As quoted from Sheryl Skolnick, a health care analyst with CRT Capital Group LLC of New York City: “HMA doesn't mess around. Two weeks [late in paying your bill], and it's off to collections.”
That, folks, says it all in a nutshell — no need for a newspaper feature article. I ask, where is the compassion; when, where and how does the patient's healing process begin? Their stress level will be immeasurable worrying about paying the greedy HMA business people promptly.
I, too, like the recent letter expressing the takeover of Munroe by a for-profit enterprise as a huge mistake. Unfortunately, it's too late for a reversal vote.
This whole situation, which was obviously misunderstood by those who voted against a small property tax increase to keep Munroe as a nonprofit community entity, makes me sick.
