Feet and Ankles
Our feet and ankles are amazingly complex, flexible and strong. They serve as our foundation and shock absorber, and they propel us forward as we walk and run. And Munroe knows feet and ankles: In 2010 Munroe performed the first Total Ankle Replacement procedure in North Central Florida.
Each foot and ankle contain 26 bones, 33 joints, more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments, along with a network of blood vessels, nerves, skin, and soft tissue all working together to provide the body with support, balance and mobility.
At one time or another, we've all experienced a minor problems with a toe, foot or ankle. Pain, instability, stiffness, swelling, popping and snapping as well as numbness are common symptoms. Problems may be caused by an injury, but it's not surprising that many symptoms develop from everyday wear and tear or overuse.
Whether you are suffering from arthritis, a past injury or a recent condition, it is important to make an accurate diagnosis so that appropriate treatment can be directed at the cause. That's where we can help.
Our foot and ankle specialties include sports, active lifestyle and repetitive motion injuries, arthritis, trauma, fractures and reconstruction, joint repair and replacement, limb salvage, minimally invasive procedures and computer assisted surgery, pediatric orthopedics and workers' compensation. The first total ankle replacement procedure in North Central Florida was performed at Munroe Regional Medical Center using the INBONE™ Total Ankle replacement procedure.
