Munroe Regional's Stroke Team consists of:
Emergency Stroke Team: Organized to provide quick and complete evaluation of stroke symptoms including CT scan, lab work, neurology exam and evaluation for tissue plasminogen activator (TP drug approved to dissolve clots which may cause stroke).
Acute Stroke Care: Patients are cared for on a special unit where nurses have been specially trained to care for patients with acute stroke. Under the guidance of the physician, care is individualized to provide the best possible recovery plan.
Stroke Rehabilitation Team: Our team of professionals include physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, social workers, dieticians and nurse case managers. Team members work together with the patient to evaluate individual therapy and teaching needs, coordinate care activities and plan for the most appropriate discharge location for optimal recovery.
STAR Team: In the event of a patient experiencing the signs and symptoms of a stroke or TIA, a nurse or medical team can request the STAR Team to assess the patient using the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale. The purpose of the STAR Team is to provide rapid assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients experiencing acute stroke symptoms.
