Bariatric
Bariatric surgery is more commonly known as weight loss surgery, but the benefits of bariatric surgery for severe obesity go way beyond weight loss.
Bariatric surgery can result in significant change in metabolism, and therefore, the remission or improvement of type 2 diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.
Bariatric surgery is a complex and challenging undertaking, and there are a variety of surgical procedures now available. While the health rewards of weight-loss surgery can be incredible, all surgical options and procedures are not the same. Further, there is a direct correlation between the experience of the bariatric surgeon and the success of the surgery. As an accredited Bariatric Center of Excellence, bariatric surgery at Munroe is performed by a team of surgical specialists with specialized bariatric experience and expertise.
Additionally, for some patients, weight-loss surgery doesn't always deliver the expected weight-loss benefits and/or it comes with complications that range from the inconvenient to the very serious. In those cases, revision surgery may be an appropriate option. Munroe's Bariatric Center of Excellence specializes in revisional bariatric surgery to alter or repair a preexisting operation for treatment of morbid obesity.
Additionally, we have pioneered an advanced, incisionless surgical technique calledTIF® (Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication) to treat acid reflux disease. Using the innovative Esophyx® surgical device, the TIF procedure reestablishes the natural barrier to acid reflux. The result is the effective elimination of acid reflux: safely, quickly and with minimal patient downtime.
