da Vinci® Robotics Surgery
Over the past 10 years, the da Vinci® Surgical System has proven itself in surgery suites across the country. Since the inception of Munroe Regional’s da Vinci robotics program in 2005, the medical center has provided care to over 1,800 men with prostate cancer. In April 2012, Munroe updated the program with the da Vinci Si System, which is the latest generation da Vinci System.
Today, it's a fairly common tool, used mostly for urology and gynecology surgeries, as well as selected thoracic and general surgery procedures. But as innovative as the da Vinci technology is, it's still only a tool. It's the skilled, experienced surgeon who makes the real difference. In 2005, Munroe Regional launched our comprehensive da Vinci surgical program and have offered this innovative minimally invasive alternative to open and laparoscopic surgery using the advanced da Vinci® robotics for a range of conditions.
The da Vinci System enables surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision and the new da Vinci model has significantly enhanced vision featuring HD (1080i) technology, which doubles the resolution and clarity from previous da Vinci models.
The da Vinci Surgical System features miniaturized instruments and 3-D cameras that move with the dexterity of a human wrist and enable your surgeon to make smaller incisions and work with greater precision than traditional and open surgery. The robot provides tools that magnify images, optimize your surgeon's view and guide his hands so that the procedure can be accomplished meticulously, with the greatest accuracy from a control console in the operating room. Today, robotic prostate surgery has even replaced laparoscopy, which was also less invasive but was typically limited to less complex procedures.
